NTSA launched a Matatu crackdown yesterday targeting Matatu's with paintings commonly known as 'graphity', those with extra lighting on the outside, loud music and those with wheels that have been reamed.
The matatu operators have termed the operation as illegal and that it is infringing their right and deriving them off 'their daily bread' since the President Uhuru Kenyatta late last year approved the use of graphity on matatu's and are now questioning if NTSA does not respect the presidents order.
A GESERATE SACCO MATATU CONDUCTING TRANSPORT |
The angry operators cursed NTSA claiming that they are targeting things that are neither here nor there whereas the un-road worth vehicles are freely moving around. They also claim that NTSA is not fair in its crackdown since some matatu's with graphity are smoothly plying on the road. Some matatu's that are said to ply comfortably include the commonly known 'Team Fergie ' of the Geserate Sacco and want to know if the law is targeting specific matatus and Saccos
My efforts to interview the operations manager were futile as he claimed to be busy and could not talk to us.
The matatu operators are now calling upon president Uhuru Kenyatta to give a clear instruction that would ensure that NTSA will not 'harass' them further.
