William Ruto has been hitting headlines and trending hashtags in social media for the last 24hrs for all the wrong reasons. 24 hrs after the star published that he had insulted his political rival Gideon Moi, another story attached to his name is unfolding.
Now Deputy President William Ruto’s pilot
was captured on video assaulting a female police officer in Nyandarua over the weekend.
There was an altercation between a the pilot, Allister Brown, who was hired to take Ruto to Ndunyu Njeru in Nyandarua County on Sunday and a female police officer with the pilot hurling insults at the officer for 'not doing her job' of keeping members of the public away from the chopper.
The video that is doing rounds on social media has elicited sharp reactions from angry Kenyans.
The leaders comprising aspirants and MCAs expressed their anger at how violence againstwomen had escalated, Kisumu Central parliamentary aspirant Richard Ogendo said the law was being put to test
and that the pilot might just get away with the heinous act.
“The DP’s pilot harasses a police
officer but who can dare touch the high and mighty when there is lots of Kenya ‘links’ to frustrate,” said Ogendo.
Nominated MCA Farida Salim said the act bordered on gender based violence. “How can he
use insulting words against the female officer and he even dares to shove her so hard. If he did that to a male police officer, it could have been differently handled,” said Mrs Salim.
She said the pilot should not be left Scot free but instead should be arrested and charged accordingly if in deed the Kenyan security agencies were serious about protecting the dignity of its officers.
Inside sources told our desks that the matter had been reported earlier on but their was reluctance in acting until later this morning when furious Kenyans reacted on social media with the hashtag deportrutospilot and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered for the arrest of the pilot. The pilot is at the moment being grilled in Kilimani police Station.
